Education

Ask the right questions to get the information you need in order to make the choices that are right for you ….

Here are some that might help … these are in relation to induction but could be applied to other discussions …

  • Why do you think that my labour needs to be induced?
  • What is the up to date / current evidence on which you are basing that recommendation?
  • How do you think induction will benefit me and my baby?
  • What is the evidence for that?
  • Do you have any concern about my baby’s well-being right now?
  • What are the potential risks of being induced at this stage of pregnancy and how great are those risks?
  • What are the potential risks if I chose to wait to go into labour and how great are those risks?
  • How would you monitor my baby’s well-being if I decided to wait?

Remember to ask …

WHY?   WHY?   WHY?

until you get the response you are looking for or could bounce back asking them to formulate a plan that fits with YOUR needs.
